4 Stars - Nice
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film about depression, friends, love and the social pressures of High School. It is very well handled and quite powerful in places.
I wasn't expecting an awful lot going into this, not knowing anything about the book and only having seen a few TV ads, but I was pleasantly surprised. It had everything this sort of film needs, humour, pathos and a real knowledge about the subject matter. Although I must say I found it weird that the main three characters couldn't find out what song David Bowie's Heroes was...
Logan Lerman gives an outstanding performance as the main character Charlie, really giving the role a lot of weight and sympathy. Ezra Miller, gives a very memorable performance as Patrick, a gay, fun loving guy who goes through some serious heartbreak, yet another terrific performance, he is one to keep your eye on, he'll go really far if there's any justice. Emma Watson is... okay, I kind of get why people are praising her so much, but she pales in comparison to the two male leads.
Okay, I won't kill you today |
