Oh man, this film sucks. Like, seriously sucks. The basic premise of this film? It's the tempest, but with the twist that they made Prospero a woman... that's about it.
This film is all style over substance, rather than allow Shakespeare's words to conjour up the imagery, this relies on poorly done CGI to do it. It feels as though huge chunks of text have been cut to make way for these visuals, and it is a real shame, we don't even get the Prospero now ends his tale speech.
Performance wise Helen Mirren does okay as (insert groans here) Prospera... However she doesn't really seem to get an awful lot to do as they cut all her good speeches. Everyone else is just sort of there... except for Djimon Hounsou as Caliban, who was just plain awful, overacting like no-one's business.
Because doesn't this just scream Shakespeare? |
