5 Stars - Nerdgasm Assemble!
A team of badass superheroes fighting an equally badass army of aliens led by a vengeful trickster god... what more do you want?
First of, I didn't see it in 3D, but I'm told it's actually pretty good. But even in 2D it's a very nice looking film, with smooth visuals, great effects and no shaky cam, which is always a plus.
All the heroes get their chance to be awesome, though Hawkeye and Black Widow are somewhat less interesting when held up against The Invincible Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor and The adjectiveless Captain America, though they are decent characters, especially considering this film is essentialy an introduction to Hawkeye... even though he was in Thor briefly.
All the continuity from the previous films is in play here and it all feels naturally used to make a great and entertaining story.
My two minor quibbles with the film are this, why does Black Widow have an American accent... she's Russian... and Captain America never says Avengers Assemble... both of these are minor complaints and don't affect the overall enjoyment of the film at all.
As ever there is an end of credits hype up for the future in the middle of the credits. This will cause many a nerdgasm amongst those familiar with the comics, but I'll not spoil what it is.
